Second Corinthians 5:17 says, "therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, Behold all things become New" the phase in Christ" is a terminology that is use almost 300 times in the new testament, always referring to vital, union relationship. With God, once that take place you become a new Creation.
THE REAL YOU CHANGE
This lead to a critical issue that I believe is imperative to understanding your new identity in christ. It did not take place in the physical realm, its not talking about your physical body, saying that it completely changes, that your look change, if a person was fat before they were save, they still be fat, afterward, unless they go on to diet, its also not talking about your mental or emotional part, what most consider to be the real "then" if you weren't too smart before you were saved, you won't be too smart after you are saved, but you will still have a lot of the same memories and thought.
But according to this scripture that verifies this 1thessalonians 5:23, where Paul was praying for the Thessalonians "and the very God of peace santify you wholly: and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body, be preserved blameless unto the coming of our lord Jesus Christ. "This passage shows that will have a spirit soul and body,
BODY
The body part is very obvious, its the part of us that is seen, our outward person.
SOUL
we can recognize that there is another beyond the body part, which scripture call the soul, we know that if a person may not physically touch you they can touch you by there words, either in positive or Negative ways, most people are in turn with the physical and soulish parts, but according to scripture there is. Another part which is the spirit.
SPIRIT
the spirit is the part of us that is changed and is new after salvation, it is actually the life giving part. "James2:26 says, for as the body without life is dead, so faith without works is dead also, "that shows that it's that which actually breath life in our physical bodies, it is where our life came from, in genesis two when God created Adam and Eve, Adams body was completes, but then God breath into him the breath of life, the word breath in old testament Hebrew was the exalt same that was used for breath, and it is translated "spirit" in other places God created the physical body and the soulish person of Adam, but them he breath into him the breath of life and he began a living soul, the spirit is the part of us that give life.
AT SALVATION
prior to salvation, before a person made a total commitment of their life so that the lord came into them, was dead. Ephesians 2:1 says, "and you hath he quickened(made alive) who were dead in trespasses and sin, (bracket mine) we know we were alive before we were born again, but the word death is speaking of spiritual, death in the bible does not only means ceasing to exit, as some people today think of it, it literally means separation, when a person physically dies they don't cease to exit, the bible tells us they go immediately into the presence of God or into the presence of hell. The soul and spirit continue to live but there is separation. From the physical body, which dies and decay.
When Genesis 2:17 says" in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt die," it did not mean they would die physically but spiritually, that they would be separated from God.
THE REALITY
When a person comes to the lord, they receive a new spirit, when he is born again he receive the spirit of Christ Galatian 4:6 says "and because he are sons, God hath sent fourth the spirit of sons into your heart crying Abba Father. God literally place is spirit inside us, and will now have a new quality of life, a new identity, and a total new person in our spirit.
