"Nevertheless I tell you the truth it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart I will send him unto you" (john16:7)
Grab what Jesus is saying! He is saying it is more beneficial for us to have the ministry of the holy spirit than to have Jesus present with us in physical body. Most people are shocked by this, even Jesus himself that make the statement know that is disciples will be shocked also. How can any thing be better than physically having Jesus among us. He know that it was hard for them to take in so he preface it with the word "I tell you the truth"
"But the comforter whom the father will send in my name......" (John14:26)
This verse simply implies that the father will say to the holy ghost, "Go in the name of Jesus" now the holy ghost has come to the earth in the name of Jesus. He take's the place of Jesus here on earth. He's here to do what ever Jesus could have done. The whole plan hinges on the redemptive work of Christ. Without Christ coming to earth and did all he did there would have been no ministry of the holy ghost.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void: and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God move upon the face of the water" (Genesis1:1-2)
Most people have never realised how involved the holy spirit was in everything that God does. The holy spirit was brooding over the creation of God just waiting to bring forth what God the father said: "in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God" (john1:1)
Jesus was the word the father spoke over those void, dark, formless water. And the holy spirit was the power behind it.
Even when the father was ready to bring Jesus into the word, he just took the spoken word (Jesus). The holy spirit blooded over Mary (a virgin) and she conceived Jesus physical body.
The holy spirit is exactly like Jesus, he does not receive power from God. In fact, he is the power of God! Jesus did not receive word from God he is the word of God. The holy spirit is not less than the father, neither his he less than the Jesus. But he proceed from the father.
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy ghost and with power. Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil: for God was with him,"(act10:38)
Why did Jesus still need to be anointed of the holy spirit, " who being in form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took on him the form of a servant, and was made in likeness of a man"(philipian2:6,7)
You see when Jesus came into the world, he stripped himself of his mighty power and glory, the word get to us that he was born as any other human being, that is why he couldn't healed anybody, anymore than any human being could. He couldn't healed anybody or wrought any miracle during the first thirty years of his life! It was only after he was anointed by the holy spirit at Jordan. After is baptism by john when the holy spirit descended upon him as a dove, and the father spoke from heaven. If Jesus couldn't or wouldn't operate independently of the holy spirit, neither should we, you can't have a effective ministry or live a effective live without him. Above are five reason we need relate with the holy spirit in every situation.
1. HE IS THE SEALED THAT WE ARE GOD TREASURED PROPERTY.
The holy spirit is himself, the seal. In scriptures a seal signifies three things
*a finished transaction
*ownership
*security
When spiritual spiritual death was eradicated from your spirit you were born again with a new life "beloved now are we sons of God" (1john3:2) the new birth should not be a common place fact to you. It is not theological idea, "in whom you trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom after that you believe you were seal with the holy spirit of promise" (Ephesians 1:13)the holy spirit is the evidence that you have being purchased with the precious blood of the lamp. And that the demand of justice for your redemption were meet by Jesus. we need be opened to him.
2.HE HAS A PLAN FOR YOU EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE.
"And I will ask the father and he will give you another comforter (counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, and standby) that he may remain with you forever......" (John14:16amp)when you received the holy spirit, he becomes your counselor. He is the one who gives you advice, reading through the acts of the apostle's you can recognized who the holy spirit was to them. How he was giving then counsel. One day as Peter was praying in the house of simon the Tanner, the holy said to him, "three men seek you" I sent them go with them"
"And behold immediately there where three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from caseara unto me, and the spirit bade me to go with them......" (Acts11:11-12) peter said here that it was the spirit that bade him to go. There are live issues not particularly dealt with in the word, which only the spirit can advise and direct you(e.g like travelling) you need the counsel of the holy spirit to fit into God's plan
3.HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH.
"I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye can't not bear them now, howbeit when he the spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself, what what ever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come" (john16:12-13) the spirit of God living within your spirit can reveal to you the inside of God-the heart of the father. No man can know the things of God because they are spirit discerned, but we have the mind of Christ.(1cor2:14) because his spirit lives in us.
His word must be revealed to you by his spirit before you can walk in it. You can't comprehend or see into these deep things, but Jesus promise us that the spirit would teaches us all things when we sincerely yield to him.
4. INTERCEDE FOR YOU.
The holy spirit carries out is intercessory ministry through you, a believer. If another Christian has a problem or is in trouble, the holy spirit is the one who will pray for him. But the prayer must be prayed by someone on earth, for God gave mankind dominion over the earth.
Since Jesus has been glorified and he's seated at the right hand of the father, he is as much God has God himself, that's why it is imperative that Jesus intercede, by the way of the holy spirit through your spirit. Using you as the earthly agent to released that prayer."and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is in the mind of the spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saint according to the will of God. (Roman8:27) the holy spirit is not doing the prayer apart from us but through us because he indwells us.
5.HE WANT ME TO TESTIFY TO OTHERS.
"But you shall received power after that the holy ghost is come upon you: and you shall be my witness unto me"(Acts1:8) just some minute before his accession Jesus make this statement. That they will have to testify to what they have hear and seen and handle, which is the the world of life, but they were not to get it done on there own, they need to be empowered by the person of the holy spirit. With the same empowerment he was empowered with at the river Jordan.
The apostle Paul said "everywhere we go we talk about Christ to all who will listen......this is our work, and we can do it only because Christ mighty energy is at work within us.(col1:28-29LB) this mighty energy is the holy spirit that was within him. And we need him. Now for our testimony.
